Some of my very first big band charts
This arrangement of “How High the Moon” was my VERY FIRST big band arrangement!
This was my second big band chart. Professor Etienne Charles had me bring in a new chart for each concert during my last year at MSU, and I had the honor of having Harvey Mason perform on this.
This was my first unhinged big band arrangement. The first few versions had WAAAAY too many notes.
Professor Rodney Whitaker asked me to write this in January 2018 during my last year at MSU. This was my first arrangement I did with lots of instruction - he asked me to stick close to the original, allowing me a short section in there to do whatever I wanted.
I did a few charts for the Dr. Phillips Jazz Orchestra during the first few months after I graduated. This was one of my favorites I did of those, featuring my great friend Markus Howell on alto sax.
Professor Rodney Whitaker asked me to do six arrangements of songs by or made famous by Miles Davis. This Wayne Shorter tune was one of the first big band charts I wrote where I got to explore thinking about storytelling in my arrangement - I was inspired by Star Trek Deep Space Nine episodes for this one.
